MIOLO WINE GROUP
In this imponent building is where the Miolo Wine Group has its headquarters. Located in Vale dos Vinhedos, in the estate of Rio Grande do Sul in Brasil. This winery has a long history, back in 1897 Mr. Giuseppe Miolo emigrated to Brasil from Veneto in Italy and with all the money he had, he bought himself a piece of land in the area where the group currently has its facilities. The piece of land was numbered as Lote 43 (Lot 43), this is the icon of the winery, a spectacular wine that is made only in exceptional vintages.
Another day in Vale dos Vinhedos to continue the visit to ‘our’ wineries. We spent the night in a cosy small hotel close to the winery and after having enjoyed a delicious fresh breakfast we head to the magnificent Miolo Wine Group.
Driving through this beautiful area we realize more and more how many similarities there are with Southern Europe. The landscape reminds us to France or Italy, it is surreal.
A BREATH TAKING MOMENT
After a short drive we arrive at the Miolo winery. What an impressive driveway and even more impressive the magnificent building we encounter there. Miolo is one of the largest wineries in Brazil for still wines and you notice that immediately. After we have signed in, our contact person Rafael comes to pick us up and the tour begins by climbing the ‘Miolo Tower’. From this tower you can oversee the entire wine domain. Again, a breath taking moment!
Rafael explains that what you see is just part of the production, Miolo has agreements with selected grape farmers who work for them but all the process is followed under strict control of Miolo.
From planting, to pruning, to determining the right moment of harvest, everything has oversight by the group to make sure only quality is achieved.
After descending, the tour continues at the production facility, but before we are allowed to enter the facility, we must wear white coats, glasses for eye protection, ear plugs and hairnets. Very good, after all, everything for hygiene and protection.
A WINERY WITH A HIGH QUALITY STANDARD
The bottling plant is huge and underneath we were guided to find the enormous wine cellar. Here the beautiful barrels are resting in which the wine quietly works its way to our glass. By the way, the place hosts weddings as well, perhaps a tip for someone?
After the beautiful and certainly informative tour, we move to one of the meeting rooms to go over the final details of the contract, which we were proud to sign toasting with a glass of Espumante. Beautifully balanced wines with lots of potential, this is Miolo, a winery with a high quality standard and you can taste this quality in every wine bottle.
From that moment on, Brazilian Wine House is the only wine house in the Netherlands that has Miolo wines in the portfolio.
